From warehouses to sports halls, if you need to heat a commercial space, why not consider a warm air heating system? Capable of running off gas, oil or electric, this energy-efficient solution warms up quickly and provides consistent temperatures in large open spaces. What’s more, our engineers can install floor-standing cabinets or mounted units as preferred. Find out more about how these system work and the benefits they could offer your business below.

What is a warm air heating system?

Warm air heating systems work by drawing air into a heat exchanger, warming it up and then distributing it. This may be done via the unit itself or through multiple ducts or warm air heating vents. In most cases, the air is drawn from inside your premises, so that less energy is needed to heat and reheat the air. In fact, it will get warmer each time it circulates. However, warm air units with flues can also draw in and heat air from outdoors where more ventilation as needed.

There are two main types of commercial warm air heating systems. The first are floor-standing cabinets from which ducts can be added to channel warm air around the building. Ideal for bigger facilities, these are typically more powerful and easier to access, but they do take up floor space. Or you could go for a space-saving mounted system instead. Units can be hung from walls or suspended from the ceiling as preferred. And, provided they are installed at least 1.8m off the floor, they are safe to use around heavier-than-air flammable gases too.

Benefits of warm air heating systems for commercial spaces

Good energy efficiency

Provided your building is insulated, indirect-fired warm air heaters could be more cost-effective and energy efficient than other heating options. Their output can be adjusted to suit the space being heated. And as the circulating air warms up, the heat exchanger doesn’t have to work as hard to reheat it. In other words, the longer it runs for, the more efficient it becomes.

Combine the system with destratification fans and you’ll also significantly minimise heat lost through your roof! These fans essentially force rising air back down to where it’s needed to maintain a comfortable temperature at ground level. And if that wasn’t enough, Atmostherm can also fit handy controls that allow you to pre-set the heating’s on/off time and temperature.

Quick to heat up and stable temperatures

Unlike traditional radiator systems, which take longer to distribute heat, warm air systems provide heated air almost instantly. On top of that, as they warm the air rather than individuals or objects, heat is distributed across the whole space. That way, you won’t have to worry about hot and cold spots, particularly if they’re mounted overhead. And the consistent temperatures warm air heating systems offer will ensure your staff are comfortable and productive. The risk of condensation and mould buildup will also be much lower. An important consideration when it comes to protecting your equipment and stored inventory!

Improved air quality

Did you know that warm air heating vents are also ideal in buildings with limited ventilation? As air is pulled through the system, dust, allergens and other particles are filtered out to provide cleaner air. This process can also help to reduce unpleasant odours which may prove useful in manufacturing facilities, sports halls and more. You can also use your unit’s fan in summer (heating element turned off) for cooling and to prevent stagnant air.

What’s more, if needed, commercial warm air heating systems can be set up to draw in air from outside. Whilst this isn’t quite as energy efficient, it is advantageous in premises where fumes and pollutants build up. For example, in car garages, workshops and industrial settings. Likewise, if lighter-than-air flammable gases are present, you must only circulate fresh air.

Space-saving systems available

Where space is a premium, warm air heating systems can free up valuable square footage for storage, workstations and more. Whether wall or ceiling-mounted, the units are unobtrusive, quiet and heat more evenly from their elevated position. Plus, if certain zones require more warmth than others, you can make the most of the heated air by installing ducts. These direct it to where it is needed most, without taking up space or needing to fit bulky radiators.

Otherwise, to heat multiple rooms, you could install a larger floor-standing unit connected to vents. This way, you’ll only need to free up space in one area to house the heating system. Your other rooms will then have a vent in the wall or ceiling to distribute the warm air. This discreet setup may also be preferable to more prominent ducting systems in certain settings.

Why choose us for commercial warm air heating systems?

At Atmostherm, our experienced team offers a comprehensive warm air heating installation and maintenance service throughout the northwest of England. The process starts with an initial consultation to determine your needs and which system is best for your business. And if we feel there’s a better option for you, we’ll let you know a good alternative!

From there, we can supply and install your chosen commercial heating unit, alongside any ducts or vents as needed. We’ll also provide advice on energy control systems to optimise your heating schedule and lower energy consumption. And in the longer term, we’ll be on hand to provide regular servicing and any repairs to keep your system running smoothly.
