About VRF/VRV Large Air Conditioning Systems
On larger air conditioning projects, a VRF/VRV (Variable Refrigerant Flow / Variable Refrigerant Volume) system is often the preferred choice. The VRF/VRV air condition system can have large numbers of indoor units connected to an outside condensing unit. Each indoor unit can be individually controlled allowing heating or cooling in different areas. This type of system also has the benefit of being able to deal with long pipe runs between indoor and outdoor units. The VRF/VRV air condition systems are very energy efficient as they are able to matches the internal cooling or heating loads by using variable speed inverter compressors. They also recover waste heat produced during the cooling cycle, which can then be used to heat other parts of a building or supplement hot water requirements. As technology has improved and the cost of VRF/VRV air conditioning systems has reduced they have become the standard system for offices, retail outlets and hotels.
